The Gardeners of Tucson are seeking applicants for a $1500 scholarship. Applicants must be attending college full time for the 2011/2012 school year in pursuit of a career involving plant sciences, horticulture, or landscape design. Previous experience with gardening is a plus. GPA of 3.0 required. The scholarship will be awarded at our Holiday dinner and Awards banquet, Dec. 13th, 2011. Recipient must be willing to attend on that date and speak to the club about his or her career plans, and also assist with four of our community outreach events during the spring semester.

TGOT is a non-profit, tax-exempt, community organization open to all who are interested in plants and gardening. We are affiliated with the national organization, The Gardeners of America. Our local club was founded in 1959. Our purpose is to promote a fuller appreciation of the benefits and joys of working with plants, both locally and nationally.

Our community outreach program this year includes monthly activities at local farmers markets, our annual garden tour, our plant clinic at TBG, and other events. At many of these events we have expert members available to answer questions about plants and gardening. We also have a children’s activity, such as planting a seed in a small pot for the child to take home and grow. We will expect our scholarship recipient to assist us with the children’s activity four times during the spring semester.
